TUSCANY - ITALY
Tuscany, the heart of Italy, is a land of diverse experiences and breathtaking beauty, with Florence as its crown jewel. This region beckons with its rolling hills, art-filled cities, and culinary delights, offering a multitude of ways to explore its charm.
During a memorable trip with friends, we immersed ourselves in the Tuscan way of life by setting up our base in Florence. Ah, Florence! A city where art lives and breathes in every corner, so rich in treasures that you dare not blink for fear of missing a masterpiece.
Our travel rhythm was simple yet full — one day we reveled in the wonders of Florence, another we ventured to Siena and San Gimignano, and we even whisked ourselves away to Venice for a day. All of this, we navigated using public transport, without the guidance of a tour.
Wandering Florence on your own is a delight; the city is a canvas of history and every information plaque or online resource tells a story. Venice, too, proved a smooth sail, its reliable trains a testament to Italian efficiency.
Yet, when it came to San Gimignano and Siena in a single day, the adventure truly began. The journey to San Gimignano was our first puzzle — the train only takes you to the main town, not the must-see village. It's a bus ride from there, included with your train ticket, though this key detail is tucked away in traveler reviews rather than official sources.
Our return was met with the second challenge: unreliable bus schedules, which had us waiting under the unforgiving sun for an hour. In retrospect, a guided tour or a rented car might have eased this leg of our journey.
