ALSACE - FRANCE
If you haven’t heard of the Alsace then let me tell you that it is a French region located to the east side and it neighbors Switzerland and Germany. The area looks more German in terms of architecture and so French in terms of good cheese and beautiful as Switzerland. Alsace is very much visited during the Christmas season because of its decoration and vibes. I visited it during that time as well but I wouldn’t mind at all going again during a moderate weather because am sure that its nature will look differently. What I like most about Alsace is the ability to see and do a lot. You could also brag that you visited 3 countries in one day and had 3 meals in each one. You can easily combine it with Paris if you have the leisure of time. If you’re not then you can easily do it as the main destination.
what to do?
day 1:
This was a travel day for me. Four hour flight to paris then airport time followed by 2 hour train. We arrived dead. If you’re only visiting Alsace then travel light with carry one and don’t get overwhelmed with dragging bags all over. The lighter you are when traveling the more happy moments you enjoy.
day 2:
I have stayed a bit futher on the outskirt of Strasbourg and enjoyed the 20minute walk to the center. I’m very flexible when travelling. I choose to take offer and travel more rather than paying fortune for ticket and hotel. So we walked to the center and discovered the town. Major sights: Place Kleber, Cathedrale Notre Dame, astronomical clock, Palais Rohan and the Alsatian museum. We had great luck to arrive to the quarter of Petite France during sunset. The view was more than words can describe.
day 3:
We chose to visit Colmar and Basel and I recommend to do them in same order. It’s a pity to arrive to Colmar when it’s almost sunset. Don’t visit Basel during Sunday because literally everything is closed. Surprisingly, I found Basel worth the visit. We had lunch there and the restaurant had so much German vibes. Colmar could feel a lot like Strasbourg but much smaller and way more fairy tale style.
day 4:
Visit Baden Baden in Germany only for 2 reasons. Baden Baden is very well known for being the birthplace of spa and secondly for its casino. If you’re not fan of any of these two then you can easily skip it. Although the town is beautiful but I wouldn’t recommend if you don’t enjoy its spa (the main interest) or the casino.
day 5:
It is also a travel day to go back to Paris. You can either stay for a couple of more days or fly back home like I did.
